Aquarius New Moon and Dragon Energy

For February 9th, 2024

Chart for the Aquarius New Moon: February 9, 2024
Aquarius New Moon: February 9, 2024

Welcome to the Aquarius New Moon, 2024. Aquarius energy highlights everything on the horizon and pulls the fabric of society to its cutting edge. The Full Moon in Leo last week helped illuminate our unique expression. Now, on the Aquarius New Moon, it is time to contemplate how that divine spark can best contribute to our groups, networks, communities, and the greater whole.

With Pluto having entered the sign for the next 20 years (dipping briefly back into Capricorn one more time), it is vital to remember that society is in the process of a great transformation. Everything in the Aquarian realm will slowly be reshaped, from science and technology to social structures and humanitarian values. Pluto is like a massive glacier. Its movements are often imperceptible, but with time, its steady weight can transform the densest granite. Over the next few decades, what we thought was intractable, will be new again.

As we contemplate our place in society during this Aquarian New Moon, we are encouraged to think creatively with an eye toward the future. The ruler of the New Moon is Uranus at 19 degrees of Taurus, which is currently in a trine aspect to Venus at 21 degrees of Capricorn. We are reminded that the Earth herself is shifting. Whatever fresh ideas we have about our place in the world, they must incorporate strategies (Capricorn) in right-relationship (Venus) to a rapidly changing (Uranus) natural environment (Taurus).

Lastly, I’ll draw attention to the North Node conjunct Chiron in Aries in a loosening sextile aspect with the New Moon. The North Node in Aries wants us to bring awareness to our primal nature, our survival instinct, our sense of self, and our experience of separation in order to elevate that energy. Chiron is the “wounded healer” asteroid. It moves through the chart highlighting ancestral wounds within the human psyche and encouraging healing, growth, and wisdom. This is a powerful portal. If we can find a way to hold our experience of the separate self and the ultimate truth of divine unity in a harmonious balance, we open the door to the true Age of Aquarius where all unique expressions of universal energy will be equally cherished and cared for.

I pulled more cards than usual for this post. The first card was very “spikey,” and I wanted to see if the message would get any softer. But spirit wasn’t playing today: Six of Swords reversed (pictured upright), The Devil, King of Scrolls reversed (pictured upright), and The Dragon.

The egoic structure has a tough time patrolling its borders in the sign of Aquarius—an archetype that asks us to act on behalf of “the greater good.” With the North Node and Chiron conjunction in Aries happening at the same time, our defensive instincts may be on full display. The Six of Swords reversed warns that we may experience some challenges navigating identity shifts. We may be caught in a negative thought whirlpool and have a hard time finding our way to a smoother current. The Devil explains that to find our way out, we must consciously release old habits and resist the temptation to preserve a tired, narrow identity that only results in fear, separation, and competition. The King of Scrolls reversed suggests that we change our vocabulary to change our reality. The Poet knows that words are spells and uses them with care and reverence.

And finally, the Dragon. Our ancient reptilian brain evolved to keep our bodies safe on a physically dense plane of existence using survival-of-the-fittest strategies to compete for resources. Dragon energy is calling to this reptilian brain, soothing its fears and inviting a release of old safety mechanisms.

The Dragon is the Nodal Axis. It is the self (Rahu in Aries), the mirror (Ketu in Libra), and the divine witness of it all (the unified spirit). Dragon energy holds immense healing potential, wisdom, and power all of which will be required to step into a brave new Aquarian world.

For the next 30 days, Chiron and the North Node will remain closely conjunct. During this time, meditate on the Dragon. Let it heal you, empower you, and escort you through this enormous dimensional shift.

I will also mention that February 10th begins the Chinese Year of the Wood Dragon. You can explore the energy further by clicking here.
