New Moon in Sagittarius

Happy New Moon in Sagittarius!

Chart for December 12th, 2023
Chart for December 12th, 2023

A series of unexpected events dominated my life throughout the month of November, so I have not been publishing many blog posts lately. And this forecast will likely be a bit late. But, that represents the energy of this past month.

Remember as a kid when you would trip and then announce loudly to anyone in earshot, “I meant to do that!”? Now play that scene back in slow motion, and you have an accurate depiction of November. Chaos, but with just enough space to make a few thoughtful decisions. So, it all ends up seeming somehow purposeful. Maybe even divinely timed.

In December, we still have a cradle formation that has persisted for the last few months. This is such a blessing because regardless of the flavor of challenge we face, we have been granted the resources to make lemonade out of lemons.

And this Sagittarius New Moon brings us a wonderful opportunity to dream up new possibilities. In general, Sagittarius wants us to clarify our broader belief systems, recalibrate our ethical compass, and shed the petty concerns that keep us mired in the spectacle of daily life.

The Sun, Moon, and Mars (the stars of the show) are ruled by Jupiter in Taurus. The one dimension that Taurus and Sagittarius have in common is the topic of value. Usually, Taurus deals with material values, while Sagittarius deals with moral values. This New Moon is asking us to marry the two. Do our material values and priorities accurately reflect our moral values and priorities? If not, why? Are there any fears getting in the way of Taurus walking our Sagittarian talk?

Venus in Scorpio conjunct Pallas Athena is helping Jupiter strategize ways to reach those goals. When Jupiter and Venus start talking, however, they tend to wind each other up. This is a fun energy for dreaming and scheming, especially when it comes to our material resources in the world. Maybe we are financial planning, considering various investments, starting our own business, or wanting to simply spruce up the home. But whatever the case may be, Jupiter’s retrograde status is asking us to go slowly.

Another reason that we may want to move slowly, is that Mercury is just beginning its retrograde journey back through the early degrees of Capricorn. It has important information regarding our institutional structures, such as the banking system and the government. This is particularly important to pay attention to because in just one week Pluto, once again, heads into the 29th degree of Capricorn. The last several times Pluto was in a critical Capricorn degree, there have been bank failures. Maybe the juice has already been squeezed out of this story, but let’s wait and see before making any major financial decisions. Time to be prudent.

Luckily, Saturn in Pisces sextile Jupiter and trine Venus is lending us the sugar for our lemonade. And it is currently ruling Pluto and Mercury. It is asking us to think beyond our bottom line. This is unusual for Saturn, but while it is in Piscean territory, it wants us to take our time, think cosmically, and invest spiritually. Maybe instead of worrying about the 401K, we can use the energy of Jupiter in Taurus, Sun/Moon/Mars in Sagittarius, and Saturn in Pisces to get serious about our spiritual health. Once we receive the necessary pieces of information from Mercury and Pluto, we will be so grounded in cosmic truth that we will be able to make ethically/morally aligned financial decisions that serve the highest and best.

I almost forgot to mention that Uranus in Taurus is in a quincunx aspect to the New Moon. This underscores the need to slow our roll until its surprises have been revealed. Next week, it will be in opposition to Venus just as Pluto moves into the 29th degree.

I’ll end by noting that this New Moon is in a lovely trine to the North Node in Aries. This whole configuration is in support of our evolving understanding of personal power. Maybe it has nothing to do with external circumstances (Uranus in Taurus, Pluto in Capricorn), but is channeled from an infinite cosmic source (Pisces) into our corporeal vessels (Saturn).

Blessings, everyone!

Okay, so this is a reminder to keep the foundational meaning of Sagittarius in clear focus today . . . despite the other layers and complexities of the New Moon chart.

Merlin is here to encourage a magical journey, a childlike exploration, an idealistic vision. There may be events in our midst that could trip us up or send us on an unexpected detour (Uranus in Taurus, Pluto in Capricorn), but in each now moment, we are granted all the tools necessary to adjust and press forward. That is why it is so important to clarify who we are and what we believe . . . or even better, what we know to be true. The steadiness of our ethical compass will never steer us wrong. It may send us over mountains and through swamps, but at least we will arrive at our destination with our souls intact.
